- Physical preparation and pre-trip diet: It is essential to follow a strict diet in the days leading up to the trip (avoiding red meat, alcohol, drugs, dairy, refined sugars, and ultra-processed foods) to facilitate the ceremonial work and prevent physical discomfort.
- Pre-trip medical assessment: Ayahuasca has serious contraindications regarding antidepressant medications (SSRIs), treatments for high blood pressure, and severe heart or psychiatric conditions. You must disclose your health status before traveling.
- Clothing for the jungle and ceremonies: Pack lightweight, long-sleeved shirts and trousers in light colors (to deter mosquitoes), loose-fitting, comfortable clothing for night ceremonies, a rain poncho, and a headlamp (essential for nighttime at the lodge).
- Biodegradable products: Bring eco-friendly insect repellent and sunscreen. Avoid applying chemical products to your skin immediately before entering the ritual ceremonies.
Are flights to Puerto Maldonado included?
No. Airfare to and from Padre Aldamiz International Airport (PEM) in Puerto Maldonado is the traveler's responsibility. It is recommended to schedule your arrival for the morning of Day 1.
Is it mandatory to participate in the second Ayahuasca ceremony on Day 3?
No. The second ceremony is entirely optional. The decision is made on an individual basis following a joint assessment and recommendation involving you, the facilitator, and the shaman during the integration session.
What happens if I take prescription medications daily?
You must disclose this before booking the experience. Certain medications (especially psychotropics or antihypertensives) are incompatible with the substance and require a prior washout period under medical supervision.
What special equipment should I bring for the jungle activities?
The lodge will provide rubber boots for the mud. You should bring a headlamp (preferably with a red or soft light option for ceremonies), a reusable water bottle, and biodegradable personal hygiene products.
